The Counseling Certification
Program
The cost
is be $250 per person (we will discuss the price for married couples).
The amount must be paid in full within three months during the
Counseling Certification Program. Trainees will attend the weekly
meetings, and once they have accumulated 10 course signatures (including
a course exam) they will receive their Certification.
The new counselor may continue to attend the weekly courses for up to
six (6) months, and has the option to pay for six more months (at the
end of that period) for only $150.
Weekly Training
and Development Program
Weekly meetings where the new counselor will continue to be trained and
equipped for the ministry of counseling. These weekly meetings will
include, but not be limited to, the following:

Understanding the theory
and practice of Belief Therapy.

The use of intuition and
discernment in Counseling.
identifying the root problem.
-
Counseling the
individual; counseling couples.
-
The use and practice of
Biblical and counseling principles.
-
Understanding the Life
Pattern Cycle of thinking, feeling, acting, and worldview.
-
The affect of anger in
the decisions and behavior of people.
-
Feeding the monster; How
to stop enabling bad behavior in one’s self , and learning to
promote healthier behavior as well.
-
Dealing with memories;
How to redefine and manage them.
-
Setting objectives and
goals with the client for a successful counseling experience.
-
Understanding and
applying effective interviewing (questioning) skills with the goal
of identifying the root problem.
-
Understanding stimuli
(those things which “cause” us to react and respond) and how to
learn self-discipline and make intentional choices.
-
The art of listening;
what they say, what they don’t say, what they emphasize, what they
ignore, and their body language.
-
Confrontation; When is
it effective, and when might it backfire.
-
Scheduling counseling
sessions; what to consider and what to avoid.
-
Learning and
understanding the dysfunctions and distortions of the troubled mind,
and how the Scriptures teach us to change and resolve them.
-
Counseling married
couples; effective and ineffective counseling practices.
-
Counseling traumas;
homosexuality; alcohol and drug abuse; financial dilemmas; and many
others.
Hands-on Training
Opportunities
Counselors will have the
opportunity to attend and participate in actual counseling sessions to
gain experience, self-confidence, and to learn new methods of counseling
application.

Initially the new
counselors will be allowed (by invitation) to
attend actual
counseling sessions
solely to observe.

With time, the new
counselors will be
allowed to
participate
in the sessions.
-
Finally, the counselors
will be
allowed to be the primary counselors,
while having a more experienced counselor sitting in, and assisting.
During this time, the
counselor will receive continued evaluation from the more experienced
counselors, with the goal of helping the new counselor correct less
effective methods and develop an effective and successful personal
counseling style.
Full Faith Based
Counselor Certification
After successfully
acquiring four course signatures the new counselor will receive a
tentative Faith-Based Counselor Certification from NewLife Christian
Counseling Ministry, which will allow the following:

That the new counselor
will be certified to participate in the personal development and
training program offered by NewLife.

That the new counselor
will be authorized to legally attend and participate in actual
counseling sessions, as the opportunities present themselves.

That the new counselor
will be able to be included in discussions of ongoing counseling,
due to the required privacy policies of NewLife Christian Counseling
Ministry.
Upon completion of the
program with a 90% to
100% success rating by the NewLife staff (which includes obtaining the
required ten course signatures and completing the course exam) , the new
counselor will receive full Faith-Based Counselor Certification from
NewLife.
What does our certification
mean, and include?
To comply with Texas Law, our certification will mean that the counselor
has been ordained and certified by NewLife as a Minister/Counselor,
recognizing the new counselor as a bona fide member of the clergy
performing his or her ministerial duties as a “functionary of a
religious organization” (Texas Rules of Evidence, Rule 505).
The ordination included here will be a limited ordination pertaining to
the person’s ministerial function as counselor.
